Doing for a Friend What a Friend Would Do

Faith Based Mentoring is a program that matches families with a mentor to help build support around the family.

Mission: To help the faith community build supportive relationships with partner families, who will be empowered to learn life skills and achieve self-sufficiency.

  • Matches families or individuals with a mentor to help build support around the family.

  • Mentors are volunteers from the Huntington Community that are trained and supervised by the Program Coordinator.

  • Mentors agree to meet for an hour a week with the family they are matched with and to work with the same family for at least six months.

  • Provides a confidential, supportive relationship to help families work toward goals they have set.

  • All program participants are encouraged to attend monthly informational meetings with speakers from local agencies that have programs that benefit families.

  • Families and their mentors are also invited to attend activities throughout the year such as Halloween and Christmas parties and a summer outing.

Quotes:

“I really like my mentor.  She is like a second mother to me.”

“My mentor is probably my best friend.  She wants me to make good decisions and keeps me on track.”
